The met gala 2014, a brilliant bouquet of dresses and suits, featured some spectacular pieces from designers such as Louis Vuitton, Marchesa, Thakoon, Prada, Rodate, and many more. As for "a mon avis", meaning in my opinion in French for those of you who were unaware, here it is.
Let's start off with our best dressed of the occasion! In first place we have the gorgeous Kirsten Dunst sporting a Rodarte, with Van Cleef & Arples jewels. She looks absolutely stunning in this dress, hopefully in knowledge of Star Wars day, even if not, what more of a crowd pleaser is a nerd dress? It's figure hugging is very flattering, but having the layers and loose fabrics on the curves stops it being skin tight, which is the beauty of the look. As the skirt extends it elongates her legs, and the shoulder sleeve, makes it more grown up. That, and the fact she is wearing a Death Star, is the reason she is at our number one spot!
In the middle, winning our cool edition stamp, is Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, wearing a Balmain number. The dress has a very 'gladiator' feel to it, and her tan skin leaving her looking of the era, but still keeping modern. You go girl! The long sleeve is flattering and the short skirt frames her legs nicely, the belt in the middle does a lot for her curves, and highlighting the hips that she has. The shoes go perfectly, and the gold rims look fantastic! The black is bold so your eye is drawn to it, and the cheetah print does a lot for her skin tone. A brilliant garment overall.
Unfortunately, in our least flattering category, is Michele Williams, in a Louis Vuitton garment with Christian Loubountin shoes. She has a curvy figure, but it's hidden underneath this glittery cardboard box. The vertical glitter lines should do justice to her figure, but they just don't. They point out that, yes, she has boobs, but they do nothing for her waist or legs. The armholes aren't too bad but make her shoulders look broader. The neckline is ok, but without the cream collar. The square edge of the dress at the bottom stumps her, making her look short and the loose waist band makes her look frumpy. The cream doesn't suit her skin tone as it makes her look paler, but the glitter/sequin colour isn't too bad. Overall, not the best dress you could wear to the gala. That's why it made the least flattering for this event.
The suits this year were classy, and sophisticated. Although some chose to ignore the 'white tie' request. Benedict Cumberbatch looking as elegant as ever, as well as his companion Tom ford, both men wearing Ralph Lauren suits. Neil Patrick Harris and David burka spotting these bold cuts which I can only describe as hobbit cuts, as it dwarfs them a little, but still an excellent choice for the couple. Andrew Garfield, however, choosing to ignore the white tie request, in his of Outsiders suit.
Some beautifully structured dresses were shown off at the met gala. I'm not sure about Adèle Exarchopoulos' unflattering custom Prada number, and Katy Holmes looked like a washed up belle. Or, as a friend commented on the dress, "it looks like something you'd milk the cows in!" But a beautifully flattering dress worn by Hailee Steinfeild and designed by Prabal Gurung (bottom right corner.) Above her, the stunningly structured dress by Marchesa, with Harry Winston jewels, worn by Karolina Kurkova.
Emma stone is wearing a fabulous pink number, showing some flesh but keeping it classy in her custom Thakoon. I have to admit, I wasn't a fan of the double shades of pink but it really grew on me, and I'm very glad she died her hair red again. Lea Michele, in custom Altuzarra, and her co star Diana Agron, in custom Miu Miu, both looking spectacular. As I said on the twitter, I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the mesh shirts, worn by Stacy Martin (bottom right) and Margot Robbie (top left.) It seems to be an acquired taste. Both girls have the body for it no doubt, but I'm not sure if it's necessarily flattering.
